I am a passionate scientist with management experience in both academic and commercial organisations

In the menu on the right, you can find a number of pages about me and my stuff on the internet. In the "Subjects" block you can find the subjects of some of my "blog" postings, which include both simple encounters in the wild as musings that guide the way I work and live.

My career:

  • Dutch, Born in Utrecht (25 June 1967)
  • Current Employment: Coordinator of the Omics-data working group in Health-RI. (This is a direct successor to my earlier work at DTL and NBIC)
  • 2014-2022: Programme manager data stewardship at DTL.
  • Since 2014: Technical coordinator of the Dutch ELIXIR node.
  • 2009-2013: Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of NBIC BioAssist; managing the academic engineering team like it is done in a company.
  • 2001-2009: Manager R&D at Bruker AXS BV, in Delft; running a commercial group run with a  long-term, almost academic, focus.
  • 1997-2001: Application programmer at Nonius BV in Delft, creating software to control diffraction instruments.
  • 1993-1997: Postdoctoral researcher at the European Laboratory for Molecular Biology in Heidelberg, Germany; writing software to analyse protein structure.
  • Scientific background: Crystal and Structural Chemistry (PhD thesis A Computer-Simulation Study of the Correlation between Molecular Conformation and Sweet Taste [ISBN 90-393-0266-9] Utrecht, 1993).
  • Scientific Publications: I (co)authored 36 publications since 1990. These papers together were cited >8800 times (December 2022), resulting in H=21. See also ORCID:0000-0001-6825-9439Google Scholar and Web of Science. Some of my other works like talks and posters can be found on Zenodo.
